COMPLAINTS AND DEFAMATION SITES

  1. BBBOnline.org The Better Business Bureau is still considered one of the most powerful advocates for consumers. With their online presence, filing complaints with them has become even easier. When you access their complaint page, you will find that they also have separate complaint areas for different types of complaints. They have one whole department devoted specifically to automobiles. In addition, they have complaint departments related to non-profits and charities, identity theft and complaints regarding advertisements directed towards children. If you are serious about getting something done about a problem, this is definitely a good place to start.
  2. Complaints.com This site came up first on my search list, which the site promotes as one of its selling points. It provides the very basics of what you might expect from a consumer complaint site. You can post your complaints and read the postings of other consumers. The accuracy of what is posted there is totally dependent on the posters themselves.
  3. Ripoffreport.com This site is really designed for reporting more than poor service. As reflected in the name of the site, the focus is poor products, unfulfilled promises and the unfortunate reality of out-and-out scams. The site also claims that attorneys often frequent the site to corroborate the claims of their clients who are filing consumer related lawsuits.
  4. Thesqueakywheel.com The subtitle to this site is: We Get Refunds. This site is more than a place to post your gripes and complaints. They take it a step or two further than that. Your complaint actually becomes a separate webpage on its own. Every time your complaint site is clicked on it triggers an email to be sent to the company you have the complaint with. Each email they receive gives them an updated count of how many people have clicked on your complaint site. It is the ‘squeaky’ emails that get results for their posters.
  5. Consumeraffairs.com If you’re looking for information on products and services, this is a great site to visit. It has the option for filing complaints but it also has loads of consumer information available at your finger tips. Recent safety recall lists are available, consumer news articles, notices of scams being circulated via phone, mail and the internet, a wide range of information. You can also search for information by category: health, insurance, electronics etc. A great resource for all consumers.
  6. Ftccomplaintassistant.gov This is the official site of the Federal Trade Commission. It is important to understand the function of the complaints filed on this site as compared to many of the other complaint sites. The FTC will not attempt to assist you in resolving your complaint. Complaints filed on this site are simply transferred to their tracking database. This database can be accessed by law enforcement authorities for investigation and prosecution purposes.
  7. Planetfeedback.com The name of this site points to the main difference you will find here. Rather than just providing negative feedback, this site provides the opportunity for consumers to leave both positive and negative feedback. In addition you can also leave ‘suggestions’ for improvement or change. The site also provides ratings of many different companies that are much more detailed than you might expect. Their ratings include things like cleanliness and wait time. There is opportunity on this site to become  actively involved with other members to work towards change.
  8. Complaintsboard.com This site provides a collection of information links for consumers as well as the opportunity to post and search for complaintsIt has links to current recalls, consumer groups, and relevant online news stories
  9. Pissedcomsumer.com Obviously this website is very focused on providing a place for consumers to vent. If you’re looking for a little reality type entertainment, you might be able to find what you’re looking for on this page just by reading through the latest harangues from unhappy consumers. It still remains a good source of information from true life experience and also provides tips and ratings. In addition, this site encourages businesses to join the site (at a price) to provide answers or rebuttals to complaints posted on the site.
  10. Measuredup.com This site is unique in its strategy and performance. Both businesses and consumers can join the site for free. When a consumer registers a complaint regarding a member business, that business is sent the complaint for resolution. The site includes testimonials of consumers whose previously unhappy experiences were rectified after filing their complaints through the the website
